The Get Growing Challenge

We have taken on the Get Growing Challenge to get more people involved in growing and composting at our school, to grow more fruit and vegetables and increase the amount of food waste that we compost.

Garden Plan by Daniel - P1

Daniel’s garden plan.Daniel has drawn a plan of our school garden.  This will help us to decide where we will plant everything.  Well done Daniel!

The School Garden

In our garden we have a retangle shaped raised bed and a hexagon shaped raised bed.  There is also a compost bin for recycling waste.  In the summer this area is very colourful.  We will grow potatoes in the large rectangle raised bed.

Our Raised Beds

We have all shapes and sizes of raised beds.  We have taken photos of them and measured them.  Some were tricky to measure!  How do you measure the area of a heart?  Just now they are planted with some flowering plants but we will be growing our vegetables in them soon.

We love our raised beds!

Measuring and Planning

Today we walked around our school grounds to see where we would be planting.  We have lots of raised beds of all different shapes and sizes.  We measured the area of our raised beds and drew plans showing where they are in our school grounds.  Back in the classroom we talked about what we could grow in the raised beds and then we finished drawing our garden plan.  I don’t think we will be planting anything yet - it was snowing today!
