Recycling Fun!

We have been having fun recycling our old toys and materials! Each child in our school brought in some of their old items to cement into their own brick. The bricks will be used to build a special wall. We will be able to look at our items once the wall has been finished. A great, fun way to recycle old toys!

In the News!

Today we were visited by the Knaresborough Post who are writing an article about our school of the week win! All members of the Eco Council came along for their photo opportunity and Mrs Owen-Hughes & Mrs Bowman both joined in too! We had our photo taken next to our gardening plot to also celebrate our completion of the Get Growing challenge!

We hope it won’t be long until we can see our photo in the news!

Final Measurement Complete!

Yay! We managed to fit in our final waste measurement before the closing of the competition, we’re really pleased!

Following an extra long half term break for the children we arrived back in school yesterday, distributed paper recycling tubs to each classroom and set up  bin monitors for each class. Today we audited the school waste again and were so pleased with the results. Already the school have completely solved their paper issue, we are now recycling all paper, including paper towels! We have set out playground monitors to collect all the food waste for the compost bins and Thomas in Y6 has been an absolute star in making sure all the diners scrape the right food into the right containers!

In fact, the only person who might be made to complete a forfeit is Mr Ashley! He doesn’t have a recycling tub in his office so we will have to make sure he remembers to put all his paper in the nearest recycling bin!

Well done to the team who managed to complete the waste audit at such short notice today :)

LUCY!!!!

Hi my name is Lucy and I am in year 5 . Welcome, we are the Incredible MeadEco Warriors Meadowside’s action team from  year 3, year 4, year 5 and year 6. This week, starting 15th March we discussed our group name and had our picture taken in our outside classroom. Our teacher is Mrs Bowman, she is the year 3 teacher. We decided that we are going to make Europe greener. We decided to sign up for Appetite For Action. Our challenge is Reduce our Rubbish.  So I would give our second meeting 10 out of 10.

There are 17 of us in our action team 5 year 5, 4 year 6, 1 year 4 and 7 year 3. We meet every Thursday in the year 3 classroom. Last Thursday Alex Knight was the winner of our logo comipition! we also judged our mascot competition. In our last meeting we designed a front cover for our folders. Mine was pretty good but Olivia’s was great. Most of the year 3 went on tissy first tools, I didn’t because that is too easy for me. All the older children did theirs on a powerpoint.

On the 19th April we got awarded school of the week because of our logo and mascot, we are all so proud because its only been about 5 weeks since we joined up!!

Welcome to Eco Club

Last week our team met for the first time to dicuss our thoughts on improving our environment. Our school is part of a wider comenius project that aims to “Make Europe Greener”. We have been working on various projects that look at helping our world see our site http://www.makingeuropegreener.eu/

We have formed an Eco Club to involve the pupils in the school and help them become more aware of how they can improve our planet. Our first step is to get stuck into our challenge. We have chosen the “Reduce Rubbish” challenge and will begin our measuring tasks after Easter!
